The area which is now Mackay City was originally inhabited by the local Yuibera people.
Mackay is a relaxed tropical city with a diverse mix of art, architecture and nature. Built on the banks of the Pioneer River and skirted by an exciting coastline we tend to be slightly cooler than our neighbouring towns.
Mackay is a country town full of vision and the recently revitalised city centre mergers with the attractive Bluewater Quay riverside precinct. A great selection of multicultural restaurants and family-friendly pubs so you will never starve for choices.
The Bluewater Trail is a shared bike and pedestrian path which links a variety of Mackay City’s attractions, including the Mackay Regional Botanical Gardens, Town Beach and the Bluewater Lagoon. A great place to live and we love it!
